DESIGN AND DEVELOP DIGITAL AGE LEARNING EXPERIENCES AND ASSESSMENTS
Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the Standards•S.
- Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.
- Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress .
- Customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources .
- Provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards, and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching.
REFLECTION
Teachers in today's classrooms must be able to create authentic learning activities and lessons that will keep their students engaged throughout the learning process. There are numerous ways in which authentic learning activities can be developed. Creating a movie trailer through the use of iMovie or Windows Movie Maker is one form of authentic learning that students could do to satisfy the sub-standard "Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity" from Standard II. Allowing students to make a movie trailer on a topic that they have chosen or been assigned is an excellent way to keep the students engaged in the learning process, while still having fun and being creative. This satisfies Standard II's need for the use of digital tools. Standard II also requires "Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress ." This sub-standard could be satisfied through the use of an online learning platform, such as Blackboard. Below I have linked a Blackboard course that I created for an instructional technology class. This online learning platform allows students to move along at their own pace and a technology-enriched learning environment at their finger tips. An online course can be created in other online learning platforms such as Moodle or Canvas. The online learning platform satisfies Standard II's sub-standard, "Provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards, and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching." Online learning platforms allow for multiple learning styles to be utilized as well as various methods of assessment. Lastly, students can create a podcast as another form of assessment or different learning style use. The podcast satisfies Standard II's requirement for "Customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources ." Podcasts can be made public or only shared privately with teacher(s) and other student(s).
FUTURE LEARNING GOALS
My future learning goals for Standard II consist mainly of staying abreast of the latest instructional technology tools. Specifically, new and innovative authentic learning experiences. Also, maintaining a working knowledge of the latest software, technology and online learning platforms, and how they can be used in the in-person and virtual classrooms.
